“Exclusive. Explosive. Expensive.” This was the indiscreet advertising slogan of the Porsche 911 Turbo in 1976. This automobile, created in the mid-1970s, was the fastest on-road automobile in Germany. Although the birth of the Porsche 911 occurred at an inopportune moment – the international oil crisis started in 1973 – Porsche did not say no to the Turbo. 2850 automobiles were sold in the first three years, but in 1977 the model reached the magic 300 HP limit, incredible for an aircooled motor. To achieve this, engine capacity was increased from 3 to 3.3 liters; due to a larger intercooler, the design of the the rear spoiler was modified and the brake system was adapted from the Lemans 24h legendary Porsche 917.
The precise history of the dark blue WP0JB0936HS050140 is not known, but that which is known is unusual. The Porsche 911 Turbo (Type 930) arrived on the US market in 1987; the model had returned to the retail market just one year earlier (in the early 1980s the US and Japan stopped selling the Turbo due to stricter emissions standards). Those in the know will notice that the automobile is, in fact, visually different from the Type 930. Shortly after the automobile was purchased, it was rebuilt as a next generation Type 964 Porsche 911 RS 3.8 replica retaining its original motor. The replica contains: mirrors, a special rear spoiler/motor cover, bumbers and wheel discs. The clearance was lowered. The motor was rebuilt increasing its capacity from 3.3 to 3.8 liters, a more powerful K27 turbine was installed along with a larger and more powerful Kokeln Racing intercooler. The intake and exhaust systems was modified. The rebuilt motor reached 500 HP.
