The Porsche 356 is the first series type model produced by this legendary German automobile manufacturer. Although the 356 “Nr. 1” Roadster, constructed of Volkswagen Beetle parts in the summer of 1947, is viewed as the absolutely first Porsche, the honor of being the first series type model belongs to the Porsche 356. It was created by Ferdinand Porsche’s son Ferry, who made certain adjustments to the roadster, including moving the small 4 cylinder motor from the center to the rear of the automobile. Originally the automobiles were manufactured in Gmund, Austria until the manufacterer moved to its present location in Stuttgart, Germany. At that time it also changed its name from y Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH to Dr Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH. Mass production meant giving up the aluminum body, but the 356 gained a new, larger and more powerful motor. Later, aluminum was again used in the Porsche 356 body. It was used to produce the doors, the hood and the trunk cover. Over the years, the automobile was updated several times. In 1959, it was renamed the 356 B, and the only thing it inherited from the previous generation of automobiles was the larger 1.6 liter motor that managed to reach 60, 75 or 90 HP. Porsche retained this motor up to the end of this model’s production in 1965, when it made way for the new legend – the Porsche 911.
The Porsche 356 with chassis number 115065 was imported by Swiss dealer AMAG Schinznach-Bad in Switzerland in 1961. The automobile was originally white and at the time it was almost impossible to sell such a sports car in Switzerland. The automobile was repainted a pearly grey and soon found its first owner – a dental technician from Zurich. The automobile had several owners up to 2013, the last of whom had done serious restoration work since the Reutter Karosserie produced body had begun to show signs of rusting. The most extensive restoration work was done from 2006 to 2008. Following restoration, the Porsche 356 B T5 has driven about 10,000 km, has participated in the prestigious Gran Premio Nuvolari retro automobile rally and in numerous less important races. The automobile has been on display at the Rīga Motor Museum and has taken part in several Youngtimer Rally events and track days.
